CORP BADGE AND RIBBON Civil War veteran corp badge & ribbons of Sergeant Newlove Willison, West Bloomfield, New York, 148th New York Infantry. 24th Army Corp badge- red enamel/silver heart, w red ribbon & silver pinbar. I believe this is a postwar badge. Sergt Willison's unit served at Petersburg w the 24th Corp under Generals Terry & Gibbon. Comes with a 148th NY/24th Army Corp reunion ribbon, 1888, Penn Yan, NY, lists every battle incl Cold Harbor, Drewry's Bluff, Mine Explosion, Battle of the Crater, Fair Oaks, Appomattox, etc. p postwar he was Elmira New York GAR Post commander, & National GAR officer. W service info.

These cuffs arer alos numbered. An identical pair of Federal Provost handcuffs are shown in Sylvia & Odonnell "Illus History of American Civil War Relics" uncleaned, orig dark patina, with original key. VG.

NORTH CAROLINA CONFEDERATE NOTABLE The 26th North Carolina won reknown fighting the Iron Brigade at Gettysburg, suffering 100% casualties. Captured Confederate Certificate of service for Pvt John B wman, died May, 1862, sgd by his Company Commander Captain Romulus Tuttle, & others. This 2pp 8 x 14" mss document, has a reverse ink notation that it was "Picked up in the capital at Raleigh, N.C., by EG Fay & by him sent Apl 16, 1865 to HB Noyez". 2pp 8 x 14" on brown paper. Vg. W service info for Captain Tuttle, also service info for EG Fay, an officer w the 107th New York, AdC to General Ruger. CS Captain Romulus Tuttle was w the 26th at Gettysburg, was WIA july 1, and 3 other times!

FORT LARAMIE - GRATTAN MASSACRE US Army Promotions List, General Order 21, War Dept, Washington, Dec 1, 1854, announces Army promotions and deaths. Under the latter, "Brevet 2d Lieut John L Grattan, 6th Infantry, in an engagement with the Sioux Indians near Fort Laramie, Neraska Territory, August 19, 1854". The order fails to mention Grattans foolish vanity which led to the massacre of his command while attacking a Brule Sioux camp, & the beginning of 2 decades of Sioux Hostilities. 3pp 8 x 5 ptd. Vg. Very scarce. A great original order for the Grattan Massacre.

W bio info- a career US Navy officer he fought pirates, built New Jersey canals, and commanded the USS Congress, capturing California's ports during the Mexican War & establishing California Territory with US Navy guns. Stcokton, California is named for him.

Each is 8 x 11" ink, all date from April 1864 to June 1865, (most are 1864), most are sgd by Captain Henry R White, Co E, 10th Regiment VRC, some also sgd by the colonel or by noncom witnesses. All complete, good-vg overall. The group
