CORP BADGE AND RIBBON Civil War veteran corp badge & ribbons of Sergeant Newlove Willison, West Bloomfield, New York, 148th New York Infantry. 24th Army Corp badge- red enamel/silver heart, w red ribbon & silver pinbar. I believe this is a postwar badge. Sergt Willison's unit served at Petersburg w the 24th Corp under Generals Terry & Gibbon. Comes with a 148th NY/24th Army Corp reunion ribbon, 1888, Penn Yan, NY, lists every battle incl Cold Harbor, Drewry's Bluff, Mine Explosion, Battle of the Crater, Fair Oaks, Appomattox, etc. p postwar he was Elmira New York GAR Post commander, & National GAR officer. W service info.  

CIVIL WAR SOLDIER TINTYPE Civil War tintype of a young seated Yank w 4 button coat, and forage cap resting on adjacent table. The crown of the cap has unit numerals but I cant decipher them, The 6th plate image in gilt mat & full case. Image vg, approx 3 x 2.7". The case is fair.  

CIVIL WAR HANDCUFFS a nice pair of Civil War era handcuffs as worn by slaves and prisoners during the Civil War. Avg wear. Maker mkd "Hiatt", and also stamped "British Made". These cuffs arer alos numbered. An identical pair of Federal Provost handcuffs are shown in Sylvia & Odonnell "Illus History of American Civil War Relics" uncleaned, orig dark patina, with original key. VG.  

CIVIL WAR SPECTACLES Original Civil War eyeglasses with adjustable brass frames, possibly antebellum and uncleaned brass w traces of silver finish. Vg.  

NORTH CAROLINA CONFEDERATE NOTABLE The 26th North Carolina won reknown fighting the Iron Brigade at Gettysburg, suffering 100% casualties. Captured Confederate Certificate of service for Pvt John B wman, died May, 1862, sgd by his Company Commander Captain Romulus Tuttle, & others. This 2pp 8 x 14" mss document, has a reverse ink notation that it was "Picked up in the capital at Raleigh, N.C., by EG Fay & by him sent Apl 16, 1865 to HB Noyez". 2pp 8 x 14" on brown paper. Vg. W service info for Captain Tuttle, also service info for EG Fay, an officer w the 107th New York, AdC to General Ruger. CS Captain Romulus Tuttle was w the 26th at Gettysburg, was WIA july 1, and 3 other times!

MVM CARTRIDGE BOX INSIGNIA A handsome & scarce cast brass insignia, "MVM" in nice script, approx 2.7 x 1.5", w integral back hooks, for the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia. The matching beltplate is iullus in O'Donnell & Campbell "American Military Beltplates". Exc, nondug, circa 1870s.  

FORT LARAMIE - GRATTAN MASSACRE US Army Promotions List, General Order 21, War Dept, Washington, Dec 1, 1854, announces Army promotions and deaths. Under the latter, "Brevet 2d Lieut John L Grattan, 6th Infantry, in an engagement with the Sioux Indians near Fort Laramie, Neraska Territory, August 19, 1854". The order fails to mention Grattans foolish vanity which led to the massacre of his command while attacking a Brule Sioux camp, & the beginning of 2 decades of Sioux Hostilities. 3pp 8 x 5 ptd. Vg. Very scarce. A great original order for the Grattan Massacre.  

ROBERT STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA PIONEER US Navy Captain Robert Field Stockton conquered California, declaring it an American territory, in 1844, and served as her first Territorial Governor. 1873 ink note from Stockton, at Trenton, New Jersey . enclosing an election ticket. 8 x 5 ink, als, 1p. Vg. W bio info- a career US Navy officer he fought pirates, built New Jersey canals, and commanded the USS Congress, capturing California's ports during the Mexican War & establishing California Territory with US Navy guns. Stcokton, California is named for him.  

CIVIL WAR ARMY HOSPITAL ITEMS a nice group of 17 Civil War Hospital Morning Report sheets for the Union Army McClellan Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, each lists sick & wounded soldiers of various regiments, noting special diets, transfers, naming reguiment &the company of each man, each sgd by the Surgeon in charge of the ward, each sheet filled in both sides, dates from Dec 1863 to May 1864. Each sheet 15 x 10" ptd/ink. All disbound, w a few edge cuts but vg overall. The group  

PONY EXPRESS RELATED DOCUMENTS 1860 a great trio of Western history items! Russell, Majors & Waddell were the famous Leavenworth, Kansas Western Frontier freighters who created the Pony Express. 3 original Russell, Majors & Waddell Invoices, Washington, DC, May- July, 1860 to Secretary of War John B Floyd, for money owed them on Army contract,.War Dept Transportation Contract issued during the Mormon War. Each invoice, w overwritten note of acceptance by War Dept official. All Exc, they come w brief biogr sketch of the Company- Wild Bill Hickok killed his first man in 1861 while an employee of Russell Major & Waddell . Each 8 x 5" ink, 1p, edges trimmed. the 3

PAROLED JOHN SINGLETON MOSBY Captain Alonzo h Russell, 19th Wisconsin had a distinguished Civil War record, and personally issued the Amnesty Oath to Confederate General JS Mosby! 1877 Wisconsin State officers commission for Captain Russell, as commdr of the Portage Wisconsin "Guppy Guard", given at Madison, Wisconsin- a handsome parchment commission w gold seal & large illus of the Wisconsin State seal, sbd by Governor Harrison Ludington. 17 x 11", exc.  

CIVIL WAR DRUNK & DISORDERLY A great group of 26 Veteran Reserve Corp Regiment, "Charges & Specifications", trying various men of the 10th VRC Regiment , most are at HQ 10th Regt VRC, 303 Broadway St, New York City, a few at F Street Barracks or Camp Fry, Washington, DC., most charge soldiers with AWOL or drunkenness on duty, some charge guards with accepting bribes enabling their Bounty Jumper prisoners to escape! Each is 8 x 11" ink, all date from April 1864 to June 1865, (most are 1864), most are sgd by Captain Henry R White, Co E, 10th Regiment VRC, some also sgd by the colonel or by noncom witnesses.
