Henry Hubert Hitchcock was a young patriot from Otisco, near Syracuse, New York who enlisted 1861, was wounded at Ball's Cross Roads, Virginia, and died of illness at Washington, Sept 1861. An original Civil War letter from Hitchcock at Syracuse, NY, Jan 29,1861, to his sister, Orissa, asks re her schooling, if headmaster still beats her & other girls with his rod, accd to doctrine of sparing the rod, he does not dare beat the large girls and if there were male students his time would be at an end! Comes w bio info & war service info for Hitchcock & a copy of a letter from Private Hitchcock at Camp, Washington, Dc, 1861. 4pp ink, Very Good. Thanks for visiting Mike Brackin Civil War Antiques.
