In 1864 The Union Army attempted to bypass the guns of Drewry Bluff during the Richmond Campaign. A nice circa 1880s photo of the Dutch Gap Canal, showing an excursion boat, with ink caption "Dutch Gap Canal cut through by General Butler so that the Fleet might psass the fortifications on James River". Image vg, on 10 x 8" mat. The mat has been trimmed not affecting the image. |
