A rare group of 18 US Army orders, issued San Francisco, California or the Presidio, by Generals incl Miles, Howard, Ord, McDowell, Schofield, 1871 - 1892, most 1880s, for paymasters to pay the troops at Forts Yuma, Gaston, Benica, Presidio, Alcatraz, and Forts McDermitt & Halleck, Nevada. Each is ink sgd by an officer, incl Captains SA Lovering, CG Lyman, JC kelton, GW Chase, etc, all are 1p 8 x 11" ptd/ink, some w Paymaster stamps, and most are VG, some w trimmed edges. These scarce Indian Wars imprints were issued for paying the troops at various army posts. The group |
