A fascinating Confederate postal history item! 1867 postal cover w Washington, DC cancellation, addressed to "Hon Alexander H Stephens, Crawfordville, Georgia, and on reverse an ink note from Alexander Stephens to "Mrs Julia A Tombs Washington, 13, Feburuary 1867 Is Uneasy about Mr T- has the French ship "New World" arrived-". Stephens note refers to concern of Mrs Tombs re the exile of her husband, Robert A Tombs, former Confederate Secretary of State. Cover approx 5 x 2.5".
