Under the latter, "Brevet 2d Lieut John L Grattan, 6th Infantry, in an engagement with the Sioux Indians near Fort Laramie, Neraska Territory, August 19, 1854". The order fails to mention Grattans foolish vanity which led to the massacre of his command while attacking a Brule Sioux camp, & the beginning of 2 decades of Sioux Hostilities. 3pp 8 x 5 ptd. Vg.
