The indsde of the wire hinged lid bears a very old typed paper label, approx 5 x 1.7",marked "used by John Church (father of George Church) who went to California around 1879. Used to weigh gold dust. Brought back by Nellie Church, sister of George Church, after their father's death, about 1892. John Church buried near Mt. Shasta, California." from the Sturbridge, Massachusetts area. |
