a great 17th- 18th century Colonial New York item- a Dutch delftware tile, showing a happy man in colonial garb, jug in his arm, stirring away. Handsome blue and hand painted, w gray background. The reverse has a maker stamp and an ealry collector's ink initials. This came from an old Upstate New York Revolutionary War collection. Vg. W info sheet from "Artifacts of Colonial America", - the pattern corner design is known as "Oxhead" and dates 1650-1700s- this corner design is also found on tiles dug at Colonial Jameswown, Virginia. |
