an historic early Norwegian immigrant trunk from Waukon, Winnesheik County, Iowa- a rugged 18th century dove-tail red-finish pine trunk, the handles & straps hand wrought iron. The front bears a neat hand lettered painted inscription "Gunter A Rongstad Waukon PO Allamakee Co Iowa Nord Amerika". The wood is a beautiful red finish pine, 80% finish remains. The immigrant's first name is partially removed. The lid is unattached; it seems the lock was replaced and reversed, portions of 2 sets of locks and hinges remain. 25 x 17 x 15". A beautiful and early Iowa item.
