A nice pair of original Civil War US Military telegraph items 1 ) April 22, 1863 US Military Telegraph telegram from Richard O'Brien, "Tel Ofs Norfolk" to WS Hewitt, forwards a dispatch and notes General Viele will take immediate steps to have Hewitt released, and O'Brien sends his horse to Norfolk for Hewitt's use. 2 ) Norfolk, Virginia April 21, 1863 Am Telegraph Co telegram from W S Hewitt at Norfolk, to C. Edwin Hewitt, N Stonington, Connecticut, "all right, in hopes of reaching Suffolk now" William S Hewitt"was a US Military Telegrapher. With info- Hewitt was jailed while trying to recover bodies of dead soldiers. Both 1p 8 x 5" printed, with stains, wear, but very legible. The pair.
