CIVIL WAR CDV NOTABLE GERMAN-AMERICAN SOLDIER Civil War era CDV photo of NY College Professor by Gurney, NY City, in original album mat, ink inscribed on front "Prof Koehner, Drawing, A German. A bullet received in war 30 y before gave trouble and had to be extracted" During the American Civil War Koehner was an instructor at New York City College in 1863 when the photo was taken. Vg. The Photo reverse has the Gurney imprint, and a satiric poem about the prof, written by a student. Prof Koerner fought in the German 1848 revolution for Democracy & fled to the US when the monarchists won.

Supply requisition for the 57th Massachusetts sgd twice by Captain George Barton, cousin of Clara Barton (who was regimental mascot), at Blick's Station, Virginia, Sept 11, 1864.
