Seated view of Sergeant Wireman w "Thousand Yard Stare", 4 button coat, reverse is nicely ink inscribed twice, "Sergt JW Wireman, C, 15th PVC Stevenson Ala" image stained & faded burt clear. W service info- the 15th served as Infantry, had exc combat service, and was in the Carolinas at War's End.

Union Army General Order, HQ Hilton Head, SC, Feb 24, 1864, charging 6 Irish soldiers of the 24th Massachusetts w pilfering lager beer while unloading the steamer at St Augustine, Florida, Dec 10, 1863, and w getting drunk and threatening various individuals. The order includes details of the misdeeds, & sentencing. , issued a nmonth befoire the ship was sunk. 4pp ptd, 8 x 5". Vg

Approx 17" long, missing the leather straps. The blade is maker stamped "JL Whelpley Best Make". Blades exc, wood frame w original red paint, much faded, and one skate has a period copper wire repair. W info re James Whelpley, the pioneer Canadian speed skate inventor.
