Confederate Civil War newspaper, The Daily Richmond Examiner, January 6, 1864, on crude CSA paper, complete 2pp issue w war news, incl note that General Morgan is arriving at Richmond tomorrow, and on p2 a stirring address by John Hunt Morgan, HQ Morgan's Cavalry, Decatur, Georgia, announces that "I am once more among you after after a long and painful imprisonment" calling on his soldier to rendevous, bring guns & horses, and not forget their brave comrades still languishing in felon cells! a great early Civil War CDV photo - Topo Engineer William S Rosecrans, full seated view, he wears a brigadier's uniform, eagle beltplate w applied wreath, epaulets; his extended telescope in one hand, he holds a partially unrolled map on his knees, a cavalry saber w knot at his side . Reverse w imprint "Published by E. Anthony, 501 Broadway, N.Y.". The image was made in June 1861 when he served on McClellan's Staff as Chief of Engineers during the West Virginia Campaign. an historic US frontier Army item, Receipt for Military Stores, Fort Leavenworth, K.T.,November 3, 1860, delivered from Captain S Van Vliet, and to Major Austin, Fort Riley. The list , is sgd by freighter David Biggam. Vg w printed Ft Leavenworth letterhead. Rare Frontier item issued on the verge of the Civil War. 1p 8 x 11" ptd/ink. vg w bio info for David Biggam, who was in the United States Government service, in the capacities of teamster and train- master. During the War, while not an enlisted soldier he probably saw more service than most enlisted men!

IOWA NORWEGIAN IMMIGRANT TRUNK
an historic early Norwegian immigrant trunk from Waukon, Winnesheik County, Iowa- a rugged 18th century dove-tail red-finish pine trunk, the handles & straps hand wrought iron. The front bears a neat hand lettered painted inscription "Gunter A Rongstad Waukon PO Allamakee Co Iowa Nord Amerika". The wood is a beautiful red finish pine, 80% finish remains. The immigrant's first name is partially removed. The lid is unattached; it seems the lock was replaced and reversed, portions of 2 sets of locks and hinges remain. 25 x 17 x 15". A beautiful and early Iowa item.

Beneath the leather hatband are labels for United Hatters Caps & Millinery Workers Union and hat size 7 1/8. a much worn reunion ribbon for Company A 152nd Illinois Infantry is pinned to the crown. Dusty, uncleaned, nice age and no mothing. .

an historic Louisiana Civil War item! When the ladies of New Orleans showed disrespect to the Yankee Occupiers, General Butler issued the infamous May 15, 1862 "Woman Order",# 28, that any woman who shows comtempt for Union soldiers shall be 'treated as a woman of the town plying her avocation",creating such furor that Jefferson Davis placed a bounty on the head of the General, hereafter known as "The Beast". An Original May 15, 1862 issue of the New Orleans True Delta newspaper, 2pp, ptd on brown paper, w top front page printing of order # 28, and just below, Butler's Order #27 prohibiting NO Churches from observing Davis's Prayer Proclamation . 2pp complete, Vg
