ABOLITIONIST GERRIT SMITH PHOTO Gerrit Smith, Peterboro New York, was a noted abolitionist; a graduate of Hamilton College, he became a philantropist, ran the Underground Railroad at Peterboro, financed John Brown's Harper Ferry Raid, & with his wife was a pioneer feminist. SOLDIER KEY CHAIN FREDERICKSBURG a really neat excavated artifact- a home made key chain, w keys, dug near Fredericksburg Virginia in the 1960s. The inventive soldier made the chain from a sword brass sword hanger clip & a brass cavalry bridle chain; the chain holds 4 keys-3 iron & & one brass; the latter key is a very early style leg iron key. A very nice example of a Civil War soldier's creative use of field gear.

CIVIL WAR SOLDIER & CHILD Civil War tintype & ambrotype images in a double cass- The tintype is a seated Union infantryman w blue tinted trousers & shell jacket w gilt buttons. The ambrotype is of a little girl in best dress and lace pnataloons, Both subjects w tinted cheeks; the 6th plate case has original gilt mats. The tintype is creased but clear, the case hinge is repaired. Each image approx 3 x 2.7".

PENNSYLVANIA CAVALRY FIGHT AT OCCOQUAN The 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry saw hard fighting including under General John Buford at Gettysburg. Muster Roll for F Company, 17th Pa cavalry, December, 1862, naming the 70 men present for duty at Stafford Court House, Virginia, and notes the unit's recent activities incl engagemnet w the enemy at Ocoquon, Virginia (The troop first fight was with Hampton's Cavalry at Ocoquon). Sgd by Captain Charles Lee, also by Lt Col James M Deems, the latter became a brevet brigadier general. 32 x 32" ptd,ink. Archival repairs at folds, vg overall.
