GENERAL ROSECRANS W MAP & TELESCOPE a great early Civil War CDV photo - Topo Engineer William S Rosecrans, full seated view, he wears a brigadier's uniform, eagle beltplate w applied wreath, epaulets; his extended telescope in one hand, he holds a partially unrolled map on his knees, a cavalry saber w knot at his side . Reverse w imprint "Published by E. Anthony, 501 Broadway, N.Y.". The image was made in June 1861 when he served on McClellan's Staff as Chief of Engineers during the West Virginia Campaign. The list , is sgd by freighter David Biggam. Vg w printed Ft Leavenworth letterhead. Rare Frontier item issued on the verge of the Civil War. 1p 8 x 11" ptd/ink. vg w bio info for David Biggam, who was in the United States Government service, in the capacities of teamster and train- master. During the War, while not an enlisted soldier he probably saw more service than most enlisted men!

IOWA NORWEGIAN IMMIGRANT TRUNK an historic early Norwegian immigrant trunk from Waukon, Winnesheik County, Iowa- a rugged 18th century dove-tail red-finish pine trunk, the handles & straps hand wrought iron. The front bears a neat hand lettered painted inscription "Gunter A Rongstad Waukon PO Allamakee Co Iowa Nord Amerika". The wood is a beautiful red finish pine, 80% finish remains. The immigrant's first name is partially removed. The lid is unattached; it seems the lock was replaced and reversed, portions of 2 sets of locks and hinges remain. 25 x 17 x 15". A beautiful and early Iowa item.
