FORT BROWN TEXAS US ARMY TELEGRAMS 1870S Group of 8 original Fort Brown Texas telegrams, 7 are standard Western Union telegrams, 1874, issued at Fort Brown by Army QM AS Kimball, to officers at San Antonio and New Orleans, re shipping supplies, best routes, items needed, etc, each is a retained copy signed by an officer, most by Lt John B Nixon, 24th Infantry (a notable officer of the US Colored Infantry in the Kiowa Wars). The 8th is a translated Mexican telegraph company telegram, w English note by an American officer , re supplies from Matamoras, also sgd by a 24th Infantry officer. US INDIAN DEPARTMENT BUTTONS A fantastic original pair of United States Indian Department coat buttons. These 2-pc brass buttons depict the paternalistic motto "God helps Those Who Help Themselves", and shows a man, presumably a compliant Native American plowing a field. These buttons were issued to Indian Department employees in the early 1890s. The button reverse is stamped "US Indian Department". Both VG, the first I have seen in years. (See Albert FD45). The pair
